Education Session On Age-Related Macular Degeneration
We’re always trying to make our residents and community aware of age-related health topics at The Henry.
Macular degeneration, also known as age-related macular degeneration (AMD or ARMD), is a medical condition that may result in blurred or no vision in the centre of the visual field.
There are often no symptoms early on but over time, some people experience a gradual worsening of vision that may affect one or both eyes. While it does not result in complete blindness, loss of central vision can make it hard to recognise faces, drive, read, or perform other activities of daily life.
We recently welcomed Tom, a volunteer educator from @MacularDiseaseFoundationAustralia, to The Henry as he hosted an information session to share knowledge and his story. Tom’s father lost his sight as a young boy so he has a comprehensive understanding of the loss of sight. With his passion and scientific knowledge of MDF, he delivered a very informative presentation to our residents and also to the community.
