Meet Damian
Meet Damian – one of our amazing gardeners here at The Henry. Here is a little bit of Damian in his own words…
“I grew up in Canberra and have also lived in other places, more recently in the early 2000s where I was in North-East Victoria for 12 years. Similar to some of our residents, I’m one of the first people to live in the Belconnen region in Melba when it was being established – I returned there 10 years ago.”
“When I was young, we had a large block in Melba with lots of different fruit trees and veggies; my father gave me a small garden patch to look after when I was around six years old. I remember digging up potatoes with my Dad, picking cherries, grapes, raspberries, plums and lots more.”
“I am a keen bushwalker, which has also helped to deepen my connection to the natural world – where I am constantly learning and looking at the changes in the natural environment.”
“I enjoy assisting the residents with their gardening tasks and enjoy having a bit of chat and learning more about them, their lives and stories. I previously worked as a gardener in an aged-care facility for three years, as well as doing gardening work for other clients for the past seven years.”
Thank you for all you do, Damian! We’re so grateful to have you maintaining the luscious grounds and gardens here at The Henry.
